OUR WORK

We’re looking to cultivate long-term leaders who challenge the status quo. From our Harvest Candidate and Staff trainings to our one-of-a-kind Co-Governance Fellowship, we identify, train, and strategically place leaders across Arizona.

HARVEST PROGRAM

As Arizona’s progressive movement grows, it’s more important than ever to have decision-makers who lead with their communities’ needs at the forefront. The Harvest program is a three-pronged approach of candidate and staff training, talent identification, and co-governance that brings low-income and communities of color to the forefront of governance and policy implementation.

Candidate & Staff Training

Through our 2024 Harvest Candidate & Staff Training Series, we trained over 80 values-aligned candidates and staff at the school board, municipal, and state legislative levels. In partnership with local experts, we equipped participants with the skills to staff, design, and run successful campaigns. All the training series’ learning materials are free and are easily accessible on our Harvest Praxis in Action Online Library.

Talent PIPELINE

Committed and passionate Arizona leaders — whether just starting out or deeply rooted in movement work — can join our Talent Pipeline, where we learn about their skills and interests. We identify opportunities for these leaders to build power with their communities through various roles in the progressive ecosystem, on boards and commissions, as campaign staff, and more.

Co-Governance

Training candidates is not enough — we’re bridging the gap with intentional professional development on the concept of co-governance. It requires a commitment to decision-making structures where power is shared in the governance process with the communities most impacted by oppressive systems. We train cohorts of newly elected and current officials on how to engage with co-governance with their communities. This cohort model helps build a network of value-aligned leaders who can lean on each other for strength and guidance.

Advocacy Trainings

We train leaders to advocate for the issues that matter most to them. In 2024, we trained 151 community members and leaders on Prop 139, the abortion rights ballot measure. These community members represented counties throughout Arizona because we know it takes everyone to make change, not just the people who are easiest to reach. In a historic win, voters passed Prop 139, giving Arizonans the fundamental right to abortion.

TESTIMONIAL

“I really appreciate how [Instituto Power] breaks down complicated terms into bite-sized digestible items to clearly convey the concept to attendees. I loved the emphasis on contacting underrepresented communities for a more representative democracy.”
